Saturday's game has been moved to November 15 due to Gustov. This is actually a good thing in my opinion because it breaks up the SEC schedule. Instead of having a bye week, we have a game against what should be a moderately easy team. Being in the toughest division in college football is going to eventually wear down on us as the season goes on. This will be a good breather game where we can relax our better players and give some young hungry blood a chance to see the field at tiger stadium, all while keeping the momentum going from the previous games. We will be going into our match against Troy directly after Bama and their coach *cough cough slime ball cough cough*. That is going to be mentally draining. This way we can use the Troy game as a recovery game and get our heads back on straight for the end of the season stretch. Bye weeks are either great for losing teams or terrible for winning teams because it breaks the normal flow of action. We will not be a losing team, I can assure you that. As a winning team we don't want to have a bye week and then come out rusty for our next game against Ole Miss. It also comes in the middle of a 4 game home stretch which will now be 5 games. When LSU has a home game, you can't help but feel sorry as you laugh at the other team go down in flames. When LSU has 5 home games in a row and gets settled in, the other teams might as well start crying about the loss before the game begins. A hurricane can rattle us around but it's gonna take a hell of a lot to get Mike and his 94,000 friends to begin to think that we are in danger. Next up is North Texas which is our last tune up before heading out to Auburn to start the SEC season. Nobody said this season would be easy. I said that this season is going to bring us home the coaches trophy again. And lets be honest, how can we not. We are DAMN STRONG and DAMN PROUD.

WITH GUSTOV IN THE AIR THE TIGERS BLOW AWAY THE APPS
As expected, the LSU tigers took game one in blow out fashion beating the App State mountaineers. On a day where it was so hot that the devil would have had issues with the heat, the fans packed the stadium to get a taste of what the rest of this season will look like. As always the game started with the Golden Band from Tigerland playing and marching to its world famous pre-game show. A special addition was made to the pre-game this week with the raising of the championship flags from 1958, 2003, and 2007 (even if the last one did take 3 tries to hang up correctly.) The military also gave us a nice surprise by having a fly over shortly after the national anthem. Then the game started. On LSU's first play from scrimmage, Charles Scott ran for 57 yards down to the 8 yard line, where he would run it in for the touchdown on the very next play. After that, the rest of the game was a blur for everyone in the stadium, mostly because none of us could see with the sweat in our eyes. By halftime, LSU had a 31-0 lead, taking away all chances of another App State miracle. (For the record, Michigan lost again to a nothing team on opening day.) By the start of the 4th quarter, the stadium looked like a ghost town. Even the student section was near empty, which in death valley, is never seen. I know it says it never rains at death valley but we all needed yesterday. It seemed like there was the band and maybe 1000 other people left in the stadium by the end of the 3rd quarter in a stadium that is 100% full 100% of the time. However with the heat and the hurricane and the fact that the game was a blow out, it was no longer enjoyable to be there. At the end of the game the score was 41-13 with LSU winning the opener. This weeks player of the game is Charles Scott who ran for 160 yards with 2 TDs in 16 carries. The tigers this year are going to be a running team. Our 2 quarterbacks are going to have to just make good passes when needed and hand the ball off and we should be golden. Later this week I will be previewing the LSU-Troy game scheduled for 7pm at Tiger Stadium this Saturday. Lets all hope it is not another 10 am game where it is hotter than hell for the entire game. On a non sports related note, lets all say a prayer for New Orleans as they work to try to avoid another Katrina. See you later this week.

FOOTBALL SEASON TO BEGIN
It's that time of year again. School is back in session, hurricane season is in full swing, but most importantly, the LSU tigers are about to take the field in death valley for yet another season of Tiger football. Kickoff is now less than a day away and everybody is gearing up for a 3rd national championship run in the last 6 years. So far both of our championships have been argued by other teams.
This year the Bayou Bengals are on a mission to prove that last year wasn't just a fluke. It is going to be much tougher as we have lost our star quarterback Matt Flynn. And as for Ryan Perrilloux, we will avoid that issue. Last year in the championship game passed for 174 yards with a TD. Our new quarterbacks Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch will have to step it up. Neither of them have played for LSU before, excluding Hatch's 2 snaps, and yet they are now expected to lead a championship caliber team. That being said, almost all of the offensive line will be back. One of the main reasons we were such a great team last year was because Flynn had ten minutes back in the pocket whenever he needed it.
Our defense is also rock solid this year. Obviously we will all miss Glenn Dorsey as both a defensive power player and as a team leader, but we have solid back up players that can fill the void as well as anybody else. We have Charles Alexander who was hurt last season after having a great beginning of the year. Les Miles has stated that he is happy about his replacement. We also have Ricky Jean-Francois coming back after academic problems. Last year he came back to play in the SEC championship game and BCS championship game, earning the MVP award in the latter. Our brick wall of a defense should take our reputation of the last few years of being a defensive power house to the next level.
Now we all saw what happened to Michigan last year. None of us want to relive that. So how do we stop it from happening to us? "Go for the touchdown, run up the score, make Mike the tiger stand right up and roar." It's corny but its true. Just don't take them easily. We play every game like it's the final game of the season every night. One game is all it takes to get out of the BCS race. We should outmatch them on both sides of the ball. In future editions of this blog there will be more in depth analysis but is week one and like the rest of us I am just warming up. Tomorrow we will go into saturday's game in much more detail. This week we will look at the upcoming schedule along with breaking down the team player by player. Kickoff is less then 48 hours away. Get the tailgate tents up, pop open a cold one, and lets get ready as the Tigers go for their 5th championship.
