FOOTBALL SEASON TO BEGIN

It's that time of year again. School is back in session, hurricane season is in full swing, but most importantly, the LSU tigers are about to take the field in death valley for yet another season of Tiger football. Kickoff is now less than a day away and everybody is gearing up for a 3rd national championship run in the last 6 years. So far both of our championships have been argued by other teams.
This year the Bayou Bengals are on a mission to prove that last year wasn't just a fluke. It is going to be much tougher as we have lost our star quarterback Matt Flynn. And as for Ryan Perrilloux, we will avoid that issue. Last year in the championship game passed for 174 yards with a TD. Our new quarterbacks Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch will have to step it up. Neither of them have played for LSU before, excluding Hatch's 2 snaps, and yet they are now expected to lead a championship caliber team. That being said, almost all of the offensive line will be back. One of the main reasons we were such a great team last year was because Flynn had ten minutes back in the pocket whenever he needed it.
Our defense is also rock solid this year. Obviously we will all miss Glenn Dorsey as both a defensive power player and as a team leader, but we have solid back up players that can fill the void as well as anybody else. We have Charles Alexander who was hurt last season after having a great beginning of the year. Les Miles has stated that he is happy about his replacement. We also have Ricky Jean-Francois coming back after academic problems. Last year he came back to play in the SEC championship game and BCS championship game, earning the MVP award in the latter. Our brick wall of a defense should take our reputation of the last few years of being a defensive power house to the next level.
Now we all saw what happened to Michigan last year. None of us want to relive that. So how do we stop it from happening to us? "Go for the touchdown, run up the score, make Mike the tiger stand right up and roar." It's corny but its true. Just don't take them easily. We play every game like it's the final game of the season every night. One game is all it takes to get out of the BCS race. We should outmatch them on both sides of the ball. In future editions of this blog there will be more in depth analysis but is week one and like the rest of us I am just warming up. Tomorrow we will go into saturday's game in much more detail. This week we will look at the upcoming schedule along with breaking down the team player by player. Kickoff is less then 48 hours away. Get the tailgate tents up, pop open a cold one, and lets get ready as the Tigers go for their 5th championship.
